The Beaumont-Hamel Centennial Cup tournament is a High School Boys hockey tournament that will be held annually near the end of the regular High School hockey season. It will be open to all high schools in the Province of Newfoundland Labrador. Teams from outside the Province will not be invited to participate in the tournament. Holy Spirit High School, located in the town of Conception Bay South, will host this tournament. An open invitation will be sent to all high schools in the Province during each year prior to the tournament. As there will be a limited number of teams that can be accommodated, schools which express an interest in participating, will be placed on a priority list based on the date their expression of interest is received at Holy Spirit High school. The Beaumont-Hamel Centennial Cup was donated by the Holy Spirit Falcons 2015/16 Boys Hockey team. The naming of the tournament and the championship cup was determined in consultation with Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Furlong, Commanding Officer, First Battalion The Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Permission was actually received on Match 20th, 2016. The cup is meant to honor the 100th anniversary of the battle of Beaumont-Hamel and the sacrifice of the Newfoundland Regiment on July 1st, 1916.
